Joakim Bonnier

Joakim “Jocke” Bonnier, or Jo Bonnier as he called himself abroad, was just 42 years old after very tragically perishing during the 1972 24 Hours of Le Mans, driving his fast Lola T 280 with a modified Ford Cosworth DFV formula 1 engine. He was Sweden's first professional racing driver and drove as the only Swedish Formula 1 driver for 13 years before Reine Wisell and Ronnie Peterson entered the sport. With his 104 starts, he was the Swede who drove the second most Formula 1 races after Ronnie Peterson. Jocke was also a very skilled rally driver and successful sports car driver.
